Seattle, WA – Detectives are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman in Capitol Hill on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue East and East Pine Street. Upon arrival, police found a woman with critical injuries trapped underneath a Toyota Prius.
The Seattle Fire Department extricated the victim and immediately began life-saving efforts. Despite medical intervention, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver was making a right turn from Bellevue Avenue East onto westbound East Pine Street when the vehicle struck the woman as she was walking across Pine Street, either in or near a marked crosswalk.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the driver and found no signs of impairment. No arrest was made.
Police secured the area while detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) processed the scene. The King County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death and confirm the victim’s identity.
