POLITICS & LAWS7 agreements signed between India and Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a new chapter of friendship and cooperation between India and Sri Lanka during his three-day visit to Sri Lanka. On Saturday, 7 agreements were signed between the two countries under the leadership of PM Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo. These agreements took measures to strengthen cooperation in defense, energy, information technology, and other important areas

Many important issues were discussed during the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and Sri Lankan President Dissanayake. PM Modi emphasized on strengthening defense and security cooperation between the two countries. Apart from this, he demanded the release of fishermen from Sri Lanka. Modi said that both the countries should move forward with a humanitarian approach on the issue of fishermen. He also stressed on the need for livelihood of fishermen and return of their boats.

PM Modi said that India has always provided assistance in the development of Sri Lanka. He talked about India’s cooperation in the reconstruction of Thirukoneswaram temple in Trincomalee. He also promised to give priority to Indian cooperation in the construction of the sacred city in the Anuradhapura Mahabodhi Temple complex and the Sita Eliya temple in Nureliya.
