The Kent Police Department is encouraging families to enroll in its “Take Me Home” program, designed to assist children and adults with cognitive conditions who may wander away from home.
According to officials, officers recently encountered several children on unauthorized walkabouts. While all were safely returned, police noted that identifying them and contacting caregivers could have been much quicker if they had been registered in the program.
The “Take Me Home” initiative allows caregivers to voluntarily provide important information about individuals who may have conditions such as autism, dementia, or other cognitive challenges. This information helps first responders quickly identify the individual and reunite them with their families during emergencies.
Police emphasized that the program can be a critical lifesaving tool, especially in situations where time is essential.
Caregivers are encouraged to register through the City of Kent’s official website to ensure faster response and improved safety outcomes.
