USAWestlake Park to Celebrate Grand Reopening on May 28 in Downtown Seattle

Seattle Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Seattle Parks Foundation, will host a grand reopening celebration for Westlake Park on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 401 Pine Street in downtown Seattle.

The community event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, food vendors, games, arts activities, and family-friendly entertainment as the city officially unveils the newly improved public space.

Local leaders and organizers will kick off the celebration with opening remarks followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees can enjoy live performances from the Bad Weather Brass Band, while Silver Kite Community Arts will host a creative craft station for visitors of all ages.

Seattle Chess School will also be onsite offering lessons and chess boards for beginners and experienced players alike. Families can enjoy the new Kids Zone, games area, play space, and ping pong courts located at the south end of the park.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from Bonito Cafe, Impeckable Chicken, and Plaza Garcia food trucks. Guests can also stop by the Seattle Parks Foundation tent for a chance to win $50 gift cards to Westlake Park businesses through a special raffle.

The reopening celebration highlights several major upgrades completed at Westlake Park, including improved electrical systems for lighting and seasonal events, expanded and more accessible stage space, new landscaping, fresh seating areas, and other enhancements designed to create a more welcoming gathering place in the heart of Seattle.

Organizers say the improvements aim to better serve residents, visitors, families, and local businesses while encouraging more community engagement and activity downtown.
