USAKent Woman Arrested After Running Into Traffic While Fleeing Police

KENT, Wash. — A 28-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to flee Kent Police by running into traffic near the 300 block of Washington Avenue.

According to the Kent Police Department, officers were searching for a suspect connected to a recent shoplifting case when they spotted a woman matching the description, including a distinctive tattoo and carrying a blue plaid bag or suitcase.

Police said the suspect refused commands to stop and instead ran into the roadway at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Willis Street. Multiple vehicles reportedly had to stop to avoid hitting her before officers safely took her into custody.

The woman was booked into jail on charges including theft, obstructing law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and possession of a controlled substance.

Kent Police thanked drivers in the area for reacting quickly and driving defensively, noting that the incident could have resulted in serious injuries to the suspect, officers, or the public.
