SEATTLE — A 13-year-old boy was arrested on June 4 in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood, according to police.

Authorities said the suspect, accompanied by a family member, turned himself in at the South Precinct around 7:37 a.m. Officers transported him to the Homicide Unit before booking him into a juvenile detention facility for investigation of manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The incident occurred on May 29 at approximately 11:31 p.m. when emergency dispatchers received reports of an accidental shooting inside an apartment located in the 6000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. Responding officers found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Seattle Fire Department medics provided emergency care and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Despite extensive lifesaving efforts, the teen died from his injuries on May 31.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and launched an investigation, ultimately identifying the 13-year-old as the suspect. The case remains under investigation.
