On Wednesday, on the occasion of Mahashivratri, a controversy broke out at the South Asian University (SAU) in Delhi over serving vegetarian and non-vegetarian food together in the same mess.
Students Federation of India (SFI) has accused Akhil Bharatiya Vidyalaya Parishad (ABVP) of assault, although ABVP has denied assault. This has been described as an attempt to disturb religious harmony.

Yashda, mess secretary in SAU, has alleged that she was assaulted. He said that some students supporting ABVP had protested against serving non-vegetarian food on Mahashivratri. When there was talk of serving food in the mess as usual, they were beaten up.
He twisted his hand and dragged him by his hair. Mess employees attacked. He immediately called the police. Complaint has been lodged. There was a demand to make separate arrangements for fruits
