NATIONALCyclone Alfred wreaks havoc in Australia, darkness in more than 3 lakh homes

Cyclone Alfred’s havoc continues in Australia. Its effect can be seen in many states of Australia. Many people in Australia’s Queensland state lost power in their homes, as Cyclone Alfred caused destructive winds and heavy rains, due to which flood warnings were issued.

Energy distributor Energex said in a statement that the storm left about 316,540 people in Queensland’s south-east in the dark, with the Gold Coast city the worst hit, with more than 112,000 people left without power.

The storm hit the Queensland coast on Saturday after 16 days as a cyclone, prompting millions of residents to prepare. The storm also hit the state capital Brisbane, with the impact felt in southern neighbour New South Wales.
