In India Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating a minor girl. The case was registered at Nihal Vihar police station in 2024 under the POCSO Act.
The convict was a neighbour of the victim, whom the victim trusted and called ‘uncle’. The child born from the attack has since been put up for adoption. “The convict did not care that the victim called him ‘uncle’ or that she was his neighbour’s daughter,” the court said in the order.
In our Indian culture when parents go somewhere they ask their neighbours to take care of their children. The convict has betrayed and broken that trust. Special Judge (POCSO) Babita Punia sentenced the convict to life imprisonment (for the rest of life) under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
