Now voter cards will be linked to Aadhaar. The Election Commission said on Tuesday that linking voter ID cards to Aadhaar will be done as per the existing law and the Supreme Court’s instructions. Along with this, technical consultation between UIDAI and its experts will start soon.
In fact, the Election Commission held a big meeting with the Union Home Secretary, Legislative Secretary, MeitY Secretary and UIDAI CEO on Tuesday. In this meeting, the issue of linking voter ID card with Aadhaar was discussed.
Let us tell you that the Election Authority said in a statement that according to Article 326 of the Constitution, the right to vote can be given only to a citizen of India, whereas Aadhaar only establishes the identity of the person.
The statement said that it was decided in the meeting that the work of linking Voter Photo Identity Card (EPIC) with Aadhaar will be done in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court (2023). Accordingly, a discussion will soon be held between the technical experts of UIDAI and the Election Commission.
