An Indian national enrolled as a postdoctoral fellow in the US has been detained by federal immigration authorities. The student has been detained by the authorities on charges of supporting Hamas in protest against the US.
Badar Khan Suri is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington, DC. Suri, a researcher at Georgetown University, was detained by federal agents outside his home in Virginia on Monday night.
Badar Khan was told that his visa was being revoked. The government has accused him of opposing US foreign policy towards Israel. Suri is married to an American citizen. According to his lawyer, he is awaiting a date in immigration court.
