Hindi cinema, also known as Bollywood, is the second largest film industry after Hollywood. This cinema has been famous for its different kind of songs, dances and dialogues-story. It has been entertaining Indian audiences for more than 100 years. But now its craze is disappearing somewhere.
There was a time when Bollywood films were known for their unique style. Be it romantic, social or action, every genre had a newness along with grandeur which forced the audience to come to the theatres every Friday. But in recent years, there is a lack of uniqueness.
Movies are being made but by following the trend. If an action movie is a hit, then immediately ten more similar movies come in the pipeline. If a horror-comedy is a hit, then countless movies start being made on the same pattern. In the last few years, this has become a stigma for Bollywood and people are raising questions whether Hindi cinema has become a part of the herd mentality.
Today Bollywood is not running in the race of making good films, but in the race of box office collections. The box office pressure on filmmakers is so much that they have started using the pattern of hit films for fear of their films being flops. But where is the creativity? If this is not herd mentality then what is it?
There was a time when films and their characters were given importance. Actors were not cast just because they were big stars. Today, star power has increased so much that films are made without a unique story or concept and are promoted in their name. So even if the film does not earn money on the basis of its name, tickets will be sold on the basis of its stardom. Due to this, many good actors do not get a chance. Anyway, today’s audience is also very smart.
