The main conspirator of Mumbai attack, Tahawwur Rana, has been extradited from America to India. Now he will be tried and sentenced. But the question is how much time will this take. In such a situation, if we look at the timeline set in the Indian Civil Defence Code implemented last year, it becomes clear that there will be no issue of date after date in Tahawwur Rana’s case.
In fact, to ensure speedy disposal of cases, the new law has a timeline from filing of the case to completion of the trial and pronouncement of the verdict and this will have a positive impact on Rana’s trial.
Although the judiciary, which is burdened with about five crore cases, is often targeted for delay in justice. But measures to deal with this problem have been taken in the Indian Civil Defence Code.
