If everything goes well, in the next two years IGI Airport will become a global hub like Singapore’s Changi or Dubai Airport. Currently, around 2.10 crore passengers are travelling at IGI every year, which is expected to reach 2.40 crore by next year.
Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, chief executive officer, DIAL, the operating agency of IGI Airport, says a global consultancy study has identified key criteria that IGI Airport needs to fulfil to be recognised as a global hub.
As part of this preparation, on one hand, DIAL is talking to major airlines and major airport operating agencies of the world. On the other hand, it is also talking to various agencies including CISF, Customs, Immigration, etc., to ensure convenience to passengers at the airport. Dial says that there is scope for growth in Europe and America, but now our focus is on the countries of the Asia Pacific region.
To become a global hub, special attention is being paid to connecting flights. This includes domestic to international, domestic to domestic, international to international connecting flights. DIAL says that work is being done at many levels to ensure that there is no problem in connecting flights.
