Suruchi Phogat’s WhatsApp display picture shows her holding a garland of currency notes along with the six gold medals she won at last year’s shooting Nationals. On Tuesday night, the 19-year-old from Sisroli village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district won her second consecutive ISSF World Cup gold.
She emerged champion with a score of 243.6 in the women’s 10m air pistol final, beating Paris Olympics double medallist Manu Bhaker at the ISSF World Cup in Lima, Peru. Earlier this month, Phogat had won a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Argentina, Tokyo Olympic medallist Jiang Ranxin of China was also present. When asked about her second consecutive World Cup gold, she referred to her display picture.
The shooter said, “I am passionate about winning gold medals and I always try to improve myself. I am not competing with anyone, only with myself. And this has been my belief since the day I started shooting. This World Cup is just the beginning of gold medals.“If I can convert what I do in practice into good results in the finals, the journey to Olympic gold will be easier.”
