INTERNATIONALWhy is PM Modi's Argentina visit special amid Middle East tension? Know what will be the benefit to India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on his five-nation tour. After Trinidad and Tobago, PM Modi has reached Argentina. This visit is considered very important from India’s point of view, because for the first time in 57 years an Indian Prime Minister has visited Argentina for a bilateral visit. However, in the year 2018, PM Modi had visited Argentina to attend the G20 summit, but then he was a part of a multilateral conference. This time the visit is completely to expand bilateral cooperation.

When PM Modi arrived at Ezeiza International Airport in Argentina, he was given a formal guard of honour. PM Modi is also going to meet Argentine President Javier Miley. Many topics like defense, agriculture, energy, mining, renewable energy, science and technology and investment are to be discussed between the heads of state of the two countries. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the focus of the meeting will be on beneficial partnership.

Why is Argentina important for India?

  • In his statement regarding his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear that there are immense possibilities between India and Argentina in many areas.
  • Argentina is a leader in agricultural products and can become an important source of grains and oilseeds for India.
  • Argentina is rich in lithium and other rare minerals, which are vital for India’s EV and battery manufacturing industry.
  • Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale gas project can open the way for a long-term energy partnership with India.
  • Argentina’s participation in India’s International Solar Alliance (ISA) can help the two countries enhance green energy cooperation.
