Poland’s Iga Swiatek reached the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Women’s Singles event. She defeated Russia’s Ludmila Samsonova in straight sets in the quarter-finals. In the men’s singles, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz also reached the semi-finals.
In the quarterfinals of women’s singles, Switzerland’s unseeded Belinda Bencic defeated Russia’s world number 7 Mira Andreeva and knocked her out. Bencic won the close quarterfinal 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) and entered the semifinals. Meanwhile, world number 8 Swiatek defeated Samsonova 6-2, 7-5 to enter the semi-finals.
The semi-final line-up of women’s singles has been decided. On July 10, world number-1 Arina Sabalenka will face America’s Amanda Anisimova. Whereas world number-8 Iga Swiatek will face Belinda Bencic. There was an upset in the men’s doubles on Wednesday. The world number-5 pair of Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash defeated the world number-2 pair of Britain’s Henry Pattern and Finland’s Harri Heliovaara. The British pair lost in the quarter-finals by a margin of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8).
In Wednesday’s other quarterfinal, the world number-4 pair of Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos defeated the world number-6 pair of Britain’s Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury. The duo won the match by a margin of 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3). Wimbledon’s defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain entered the semi-finals of the men’s singles. He defeated Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. He will face Taylor Fritz of America in the semi-finals.
