Now Trump’s tariff bomb explodes on Canada, gives a big blow by imposing 35% import duty

USANow Trump's tariff bomb explodes on Canada, gives a big blow by imposing 35% import duty

After imposing a 50% tariff on Brazil, US President Donald Trump made a big announcement on Friday and announced imposing heavy tariffs on America’s neighboring country Canada. Trump has imposed a 35% tariff on products coming from Canada, which will come into effect from August 1, 2025. After this, a 35 percent import duty will be levied on all Canadian products coming to America.

Trump has described his decision as a response to Canada’s retaliatory action and unfair behavior. In his official letter, Trump clearly said that Canada has failed to stop the supply of dangerous drugs like fentanyl to America. Calling it a serious threat to American society, he said that now the time has come for America to give priority to its security and economy. “As you know, the United States has previously imposed tariffs to address the fentanyl crisis that has swept our country,” Trump wrote in his letter.

“This crisis is being exacerbated in part by Canada’s failure to act,” he wrote. Trump warned that Canadian companies would be subject to tariffs if they routed their products through a third country to avoid the tariffs. Trump made it clear that if Canada responds to this tariff of America by increasing the duty on its products, then America will impose more tariffs in response. He wrote, “If you increase the tariff for any reason, we will add the same percentage to 35% as you increase it.”
