The White House says that Trump has a nerve disease due to which his legs are swelling.US President Donald Trump has suffered swelling in his lower legs and an injury to his right arm, the White House said on Thursday, after Trump’s ankles were swollen and a layer of makeup was seen on the affected arm.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt, reading a letter from Trump’s doctor at a press conference, said both illnesses are common. He told reporters that the swelling in his leg was due to a common vein problem and that his hand hurt because of shaking hands with many people. The revelation puts an end to internet rumours that Trump, 79, could be suffering from a serious illness based on evidence in photographs.
Following Levitt’s briefing, the White House released a letter from Shawn Barbella, a US Navy officer who is also Trump’s physician. It said Trump had undergone a number of tests to address these problems. Barbella said an ultrasound of the president’s legs “revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition, especially in people over the age of 70.”
Additional tests showed no signs of heart failure, kidney failure or any other systemic disease, Barbella said. Leavitt told reporters that Trump is not having any problems due to this condition. Barbella also said that Trump has bruises on the back of his right hand. The letter said that there is no evidence that Trump has deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.
