Monsoon rains have caused massive destruction in Pakistan. More than 200 people have lost their lives since the onset of the monsoon in late June, including 100 children. This information was given by Geo TV on Saturday (July 19, 2025) quoting the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan.According to Geo TV, 123 deaths occurred in Pakistan’s Punjab, 40 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, 1 in Islamabad and 1 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Although the causes of death vary, at least 118 people were reported to have died in house collapses, 30 in flash floods, and several others were killed by drowning, lightning strikes, and landslides. More than 560 people have been injured due to heavy rains, including 182 children. Flash floods in Rawalpindi engulfed homes, roads and markets, leaving entire neighborhoods under water.
The water level rose dangerously. In some areas, the water reached above the roofs, due to which people had to leave their homes and run away. Faisalabad has also suffered heavy losses. Here, 11 people were killed and 60 injured in incidents in just two days. Most of the deaths were due to house collapse. At least 32 roads were washed away after the rain in Chakwal.
If the recent report of UN News is to be believed, more devastation is yet to happen in Pakistan as there is also a possibility of flood due to the bursting of the glacier lake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan areas.
