The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given England the hosting rights for the next 3 finals of the World Test Championship. This decision was taken in the 4-day Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Singapore. According to a media release issued on Sunday, England will host the WTC finals in 2027, 2029 and 2031. The English board was given this hosting in view of the last 3 successful events.
Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma had raised questions on giving continuous hosting rights to England after losing the WTC final in 2023. Rohit had said- The WTC final should be a 3-match series instead of a single match. We should not play this match only in June. It can also be played in February and March. The WTC final can be played not only in England but also in other countries of the world.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has also been awarded the hosting rights of the 2027, 2029 and 2031 World Test Championship (WTC) finals. Gurumurthy Palani of the French Cricket Association, Anurag Bhatnagar of Hong Kong and Gurdeep Clair of Canada were made representatives of the associate member countries of the ICC Chief Executive Committee (CEC).
The ICC has launched a program in collaboration with BCCI, ECB and Cricket Australia to support women cricketers of Afghan origin. Which will run under the supervision of Deputy Chair Imran Khawaja. This will include high performance training, opportunities to play domestic cricket and participation in 2 major tournaments.
