IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are now badly trapped in legal troubles. The Karnataka government has given permission to prosecute criminal charges against RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in connection with the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team’s victory parade.
The government has taken this decision on the basis of the report of the investigation commission, in which RCB, KSCA and DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited associated with the event have been held responsible for the incident. RCB created history by winning the final of IPL 2025 on June 3. After a long wait, the team won the title for the first time. The very next day, i.e. on June 4, the RCB team returned to Bangalore and a grand victory parade and celebration was organized at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
During this event, the crowd could not be controlled. More tickets were distributed than required, due to which more people reached the stadium than its capacity and due to chaos, a stampede occurred. 11 people died and about 50 people were injured in this tragic accident. After the accident, the Karnataka government had constituted a one-member inquiry commission headed by retired Justice John Michael D’Cunha on June 5.
This report was recently submitted to the government, which was accepted by the Karnataka Cabinet on July 24. In this report, RCB, KSCA and DNA Entertainment have been blamed for this accident. According to the report
No concrete arrangements were made for crowd control.
There was serious negligence in ticketing and entry arrangements.
The administration and the organising committee had ignored security standards.
Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil told news agency PTI that the government has approved Justice D’Cunha’s report and now criminal proceedings will be initiated against RCB, KSCA and the event company. Along with this, the role of police and other government departments will also be investigated, because the commission’s report has also raised questions on the negligence of government officials.
