Kent, WA – City Council candidate Logan Evans today announced the formation of the Kent Quality of Life Coalition, a growing slate of common sense candidates pledging bold action to restore public safety, expand shelters and treatment for the unhoused, and build a more affordable, walkable and vibrant Kent.
The coalition’s core platform includes:
A public camping ban with direction to shelter and services
A Three-Strikes drug policy: 6 months of involuntary rehab for repeat public drug use
High-density development, up to 20 stories—within 5 blocks of light rail, with incentives for affordable housing and ground-floor retail
“These aren’t extreme policies, they’re common sense,” said Evans. “We’re done choosing between safety and compassion. We’re done with policies that leave people suffering on sidewalks. Families deserve clean and safe parks. The unhoused deserve direction, not abandonment or enablement. We’re going to lead with clarity, direction, and real solutions. This is the path forward.”
Neet Grewal, fellow candidate for Seat #2, is also pledging her support to the coalition, emphasized the importance of shared priorities: “This is about fighting to protect hardworking families, residents of Kent, and vulnerable members of our community, especially single moms and children. What we’ve been doing isn’t working, and I’m here to provide solutions. The Quality of Life Plan is a harmonious balance between safety and compassion. It’s how we will make Kent safer, cleaner, and more affordable for us all. I want you to feel safe taking a stroll down the street after dinner, letting your kids play outside, or waiting at the bus stop after a long day of work. With your support, I will restore that feeling of safety and joy in Kent.”
The Kent Quality of Life Coalition draws inspiration from the broader King County Quality of Life movement, founded by civic leader and entrepreneur Saul Spady, who wrote:
“We don’t need more tents; we need triage. King County must stop normalizing suffering and start responding with urgency, compassion, and consequence. That begins with a public camping ban and real direction to treatment, shelter, and housing.”
Spady has been organizing candidates and residents across King County who are tired of partisan gridlock and ready for action-first leadership.
Evans added, “We can preserve our single-family neighborhoods and solve our housing crisis. Smart growth near light rail transit is how we make Kent livable, walkable, and affordable for the next generation and generations to come. We will have a beautiful city, a Kent we are proud of, a Kent that was always meant to be.”
The coalition will roll out additional candidate endorsements and campaign events in the coming weeks. All members are signing a shared Quality of Life Pledge to pass a public camping ban and expand shelter services in their first 100 days after taking office.
