Renton Rainier Avenue South Phase 4 Lane Restriction

USARenton Rainier Avenue South Phase 4 Lane Restriction

Starting August 11, 2025, construction for Phase 4 of the Rainier Ave South Improvement Project will lead to lane restrictions. This work is expected to continue until the end of September.

Rainier Avenue South is a major transit corridor that serves a high volume of daily traffic, including buses, pedestrians, and cyclists. The goal of this project is to improve the overall functionality of the corridor by enhancing safety, supporting traffic demands, and providing better access for all users. The phased approach of this multi-year project is being made possible by securing grant funding.

Phase 4 focuses on improving safety and access for everyone, including walkers, bikers, and drivers. For example, wider sidewalks and new bike lanes will provide a safer experience for those on foot or on two wheels, while improved access points will help drivers get in and out of businesses more easily. The project will also improve transit access, allowing buses and riders to make stops without causing traffic delays or collisions.

Once this phase is complete, you can expect to see several improvements, including:

Sidewalk widening with new landscaping

Pedestrian-scale lighting

Extension of the Lake Washington Loop Trail

New and upgraded traffic signals, including pedestrian-activated signals

Transit improvements, such as an extended Business Access and Transit (BAT) lane

Planted buffer strips and landscaped medians
