Kent, WA — Kent City Council President Satwinder Kaur has officially announced her campaign for re-election to Position No. 2, highlighting her record of public service, bipartisan backing, and commitment to building a “stronger, safer, and inclusive Kent.”
Kaur, who was first elected in 2017 and re-elected unopposed in 2021, said she is honored to seek another term. “With your support, we can keep building a stronger, safer, and inclusive Kent for all. Let’s keep moving forward together to deliver real solutions to real problems,” she said in her campaign announcement.
The daughter of immigrant parents, Kaur grew up in Kent and worked multiple jobs while pursuing her education. She graduated with an MBA from the University of Washington and currently works as a senior IT engineer. She and her husband, a Boeing engineer, are raising their four children in the city.

Kaur emphasized her hands-on experience in community service, from volunteering at food banks and local nonprofits to spearheading citywide clean-up efforts. “Being local is one of my greatest strengths,” she said. “It allows me to connect with residents and understand their concerns because their concerns are also my concerns.”

As Council President, Kaur has prioritized public safety, infrastructure, and community programs. During her tenure, Kent increased its police force from 105 to 167 officers, expanded community policing programs, and saw a two-year decline in crime. She also helped secure more than $70 million for sidewalks, safer school zones, and new park projects, including $2.5 million in state funding for East Hill North Community Park.

If re-elected, Kaur said she will continue focusing on:
-
Enhancing public safety through hiring, training, and community-based policing.
-
Improving infrastructure, including safer school zones, modernized sidewalks, and expanded transit.
-
Protecting and expanding parks and green spaces.
-
Supporting families, seniors, and small businesses.
-
Strengthening community connections through cultural engagement and language access.
Kaur’s campaign has already drawn wide bipartisan support. She is endorsed by Mayor Dana Ralph and all six of her council colleagues, as well as Kent Firefighters IAFF 1747, the Kent Education Association, Congressman Adam Smith, State Senator Claudia Kauffman, and several regional leaders.
“Experience, dedication, and results matter more than political rhetoric,” Kaur said. “I bring proven leadership and the ability to work across divisions to improve our city.”
