USAGovernor Bob Ferguson Issues Proclamation Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington

Olympia, WA — Governor Bob Ferguson has issued a formal proclamation celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the rich cultural contributions, history, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities across Washington state.

In a statement shared on social media, Governor Ferguson emphasized Washington’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, urging residents to embrace those values even more strongly.

“Now is not the time to retreat from our core values in Washington of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Now more than ever, we must lean into them,” Ferguson said.

The proclamation, signed September 12, 2025, officially designates September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington. It highlights the deep roots of Hispanic and Latino heritage across the Americas — from the Maya, Inca, and Taíno civilizations to modern-day contributions in arts, education, business, and public service.

Governor Ferguson also noted that Hispanic and Latino people make up 13.7% of Washington’s population, with significant representation in counties such as Yakima, Franklin, and Adams. He called on public officials, educators, and residents to honor the community’s impact through recognition events and continued advocacy for inclusion.

“We’re proud to celebrate the rich heritage and achievements of Hispanic and Latino Washingtonians,” the Governor said. “Their strength, resilience, and creativity continue to shape the story of our state.”

Hispanic Heritage Month runs annually from September 15 to October 15, marking the independence anniversaries of several Latin American nations and celebrating Hispanic culture and history across the United States.
