USARamp Closures Disrupt Seattle Traffic; No ETA for Reopening

October 19, 2025 | Seattle, WA

Commuters in Seattle are facing significant disruptions as several freeway ramps, including the heavily traveled I-5 Mercer Street and Denny Way off-ramps, have been closed with no estimated time for reopening.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed the closures on social media, citing coordination with the City of Seattle. The affected areas include both northbound and southbound ramps on I-5—covering both the mainline and express lanes—as well as sections of SR 99.

“In coordination with the City of Seattle, travelers may encounter off-ramp closures on NB & SB I-5 and NB & SB SR 99 today (10/18),” WSDOT stated.

The reason for the ramp shutdowns has not been officially disclosed, and officials have yet to provide a timeline for when the ramps will reopen. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and plan for delays as congestion builds throughout the city.

Authorities are urging residents to stay updated via official channels for real-time traffic alerts and detour information.
