USARenton Police Department Promotes Safe Drug Disposal During Red Ribbon Week

RENTON, WA — The Renton Police Department is partnering with the Renton School District during Red Ribbon Week 2025 to promote drug-free lifestyles and encourage residents to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications.

As part of the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, community members are urged to clean out their medicine cabinets and properly dispose of old medications. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with local drop-off sites listed at DEATakeBack.com.

Throughout the year, residents can also stop by the Renton Police Department lobby (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) to pick up a free Med-Project mail-in box or envelope for safe medication disposal at home. More information is available at medtakebackwashington.org.

“Every pill you safely dispose of helps keep our homes, schools, and community safer,” the department shared.

The initiative aligns with Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention campaign, aimed at fostering healthy, drug-free choices among youth and families.
