USATukwila Police, Mental Health Provider Assist Homeless Woman and Child

TUWILA, Wash. — A Tukwila police officer and a mental health provider teamed up last week to help a woman and her young child who were found in a vulnerable situation along Strander Boulevard.

According to the Tukwila Police Department, Officer Johnson responded to a report of a woman soliciting in the 300 block of Strander Blvd. The woman, who had a small child with her, was determined to be in a difficult and unsafe situation with no place to stay.

Officer Johnson requested support from Mental Health Provider (MHP) Fisk, who arrived to begin arranging resources and immediate assistance for the mother and child. While MHP Fisk worked on longer-term solutions, Officer Johnson secured a hotel room for the pair, using assistance from the BlueBridge Alliance card program to cover the cost.

By the next morning, MHP Fisk had located longer-term housing options for the family, ensuring they would no longer have to remain without shelter.

Tukwila Police highlighted the incident as a successful example of their partnership with BlueBridge Alliance, which helps connect people in crisis with immediate support when they need it most.
