Due to the increase in the crowd of devotees going to Prayagraj for Sangam bath in Mahakumbh, a stampede broke out at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night, in which 18 people died, while more than 25 were injured.
Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar reached the railway station and took stock of the incident and has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The incident took place at around 8.30 pm on platform number 14/15, when passengers were waiting for two trains going towards Prayagraj, but these trains did not arrive, due to which a crowd of passengers gathered on the platform.
