Seattle, WA — The King County Council has officially approved a $19.7 billion budget for the 2026–2027 biennium, outlining major investments in transit, public safety, community programs, and justice-related services.
During a public meeting at the council chambers, members voted on the final budget package, which aims to address both immediate and long-term needs in one of Washington’s largest and fastest-growing counties. Key funding areas include expanded transit services, improvements in the law and justice system, homelessness response, environmental initiatives, and public health.
Officials noted that the budget reflects ongoing efforts to balance fiscal responsibility with community priorities. Investments are also expected to support infrastructure upgrades and strengthen programs that assist vulnerable populations.
The approved plan will guide county operations for the next two years and shape regional services affecting more than 2 million residents.
