USAFresno Uber Driver Critically Injured After Being Shot by Passenger

Fresno, CA — A late-night ride in Fresno turned violent Thursday when an Uber driver was shot in the back of the head by a passenger, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Officers responded around 8:15 p.m. to reports of gunfire near South Tupman Street and East George Avenue. Investigators say a 40-year-old rideshare driver had picked up a passenger when an unspecified disturbance broke out inside the vehicle. The driver reportedly asked the passenger to exit the car.

Moments later, multiple gunshots were fired inside the vehicle, striking the driver in the back of the head. Despite his injuries, the driver managed to drive away from the scene and was found by officers a short distance away. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, though officials expect him to survive.

Police believe the attack was an isolated incident. Officers are continuing to search the neighborhood for ballistic evidence, and no suspect description has been released.

Uber issued a statement Friday responding to the shooting, saying the company is “ready to support law enforcement with their investigation.”

The investigation remains active.
