USACity of Renton Opens Applications for Second Cohort of Resident Civic Academy

Renton, WA — The City of Renton is now accepting applications for the second cohort of its Resident Civic Academy, following the successful launch of the program’s first group in early 2025.

City officials announced that the application deadline for the upcoming session is Monday, December 8, and emphasized that space is limited. The academy is designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how local government operates, with hands-on learning experiences and direct engagement with city departments.

Participants in the program will have the opportunity to learn about public safety, city services, budgeting, infrastructure, and leadership through interactive sessions and site visits. The upcoming session is scheduled to run from January through March 2026, with weekly evening classes.

The City of Renton says the program aims to strengthen community involvement, promote civic education, and encourage residents to take an active role in local government.

Residents interested in applying can find more details and submit applications through the city’s official website.

City leaders encourage eligible residents to apply early, as demand for the program is expected to be high.
