King County, WA — A Flood Warning has been issued for the region, urging residents to exercise caution as hazardous conditions develop due to rising water levels. Officials warn that motorists should never attempt to drive around barricades or through flooded roadways, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
Authorities emphasize the message: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Even shallow, fast-moving water can pose a serious threat — as little as 6 inches can knock a person off their feet, and 2 feet of floodwater is enough to float most vehicles.
Residents are advised to stay away from riverbanks, avoid walking or driving through swift water, and seek alternate routes if floodwaters are encountered.
Additional updates and safety information are available at weather.gov, with the next official statement scheduled for 4:15 PM PST this afternoon.
