Kent Parks Cancels Christmas Rush Event Due to High River Levels

USAKent Parks Cancels Christmas Rush Event Due to High River Levels

KENT — Kent Parks, Recreation & Community Services has announced the cancellation of the 2025 Christmas Rush 5K/10K, citing unsafe conditions caused by rising river levels along the race route.

According to officials, this marks the first cancellation of the Christmas Rush in 43 years. Recent weather conditions have caused the river to swell and overflow onto parts of the course, making it impossible to safely host the event.

Event organizers stated that considerable time was spent evaluating alternative options. However, after reviewing all possibilities, they determined that no safe solution was available for the more than 800 registered participants and staff.

Kent Parks emphasized that the decision was made in the interest of public safety.

Registered participants will receive refund information via email, and additional details are available through the event hotline at (253) 856-5020, option 3.

Officials thanked the community for their understanding and support and encouraged runners to stay tuned for future events.
