Everett, Washington — The Everett Police Department has a new chief following a formal swearing-in ceremony held during the Everett City Council meeting on January 7, 2026.
Deputy Chief Robert Goetz was officially sworn in as the new Chief of Police, marking a new chapter in leadership for the department. Chief Goetz brings decades of experience within the Everett Police Department, having most recently served as Deputy Chief overseeing the Investigations and Services Bureau.
Before his role as deputy chief, Goetz led the South Precinct as a captain and served as an administrative lieutenant with the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force. His extensive career also includes assignments as a detective with the Office of Professional Standards, school resource officer, public information officer, patrol sergeant, member of the Marine Unit, and longtime member of the department’s Honor Guard.
Everett Mayor Franklin praised the appointment, citing Chief Goetz’s leadership and experience. “Robert brings decades of experience, strong relationships throughout the department and across the region, and a steady leadership style that reflects the values of our community,” the mayor said. “His willingness to step into this role during a period of transition speaks to his commitment to the people of Everett.”
Chief Goetz expressed gratitude for the opportunity and reaffirmed his commitment to the department and the community. “It’s an honor to step into the role of chief and continue the strong legacy of integrity, professionalism, and innovation built by previous chiefs,” he said. “Everett has an outstanding police department, and I remain committed to supporting our officers, staff, and the Everett community as we move forward together.”
City officials stated that Chief Goetz’s leadership will help ensure continuity, professionalism, and public trust as the department continues serving the Everett community.
