SEATTLE — A Seattle police officer was injured Tuesday night during the arrest of a violent felon on federal probation following a struggle in South Seattle, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on Jan. 28 in the 3600 block of 33rd Avenue South, where officers on patrol noticed a vehicle with no license plates illegally parked between two disabled parking spaces.

Before officers exited their patrol vehicle, police say the driver was observed removing a gun from his waistband and attempting to hide it on the floorboard. When contacted, the suspect told officers he only had an open container of alcohol inside the car.

Officers located an open bottle of tequila and confirmed the presence of a firearm. As police attempted to detain the suspect, he resisted efforts to handcuff him, leading officers to deploy a Taser. During the struggle, one officer was injured.

The suspect, a 35-year-old man, is a recently convicted felon for assault and is currently on federal probation for firearm, drug trafficking, and heroin-related charges. He is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

Police booked the suspect into the King County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm. The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant to recover the gun.

The injured officer was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and is expected to recover.

The incident is documented under case number 2026-27318.
