Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson Talks Super Bowl Bet With Boston Mayor, Hands Ball Off to Marshawn Lynch

USASeattle Mayor Katie Wilson Talks Super Bowl Bet With Boston Mayor, Hands Ball Off to Marshawn Lynch

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced a friendly Super Bowl wager with the mayor of Boston during a press event this week, marking the latest tradition between cities whose teams meet on the NFL’s biggest stage.

As part of the bet, Mayor Wilson agreed to send local Seattle goods to Boston if Seattle loses, while Boston would reciprocate should its team fall short. The wager was revealed as playoff excitement continues to build ahead of the Super Bowl.

During the announcement, Wilson symbolically handed off a football to former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, a nod to the city’s football legacy and one of its most iconic athletes. Lynch’s appearance drew applause and underscored the celebratory tone of the event.

“These bets are about more than football,” Wilson said. “They’re about community pride, good-natured rivalry, and having some fun while the whole country is watching.”

Similar Super Bowl bets between mayors have become a common tradition across the country, often highlighting regional foods, culture, or charitable donations.

The Super Bowl is set to take place this weekend, with fans in both cities gearing up for what officials expect to be a closely watched matchup.
