The Kent Police Department has officially welcomed a new officer as part of its growing force, with Officer Anthony Cienega being introduced and sworn in during a recent city council meeting.

The ceremony was led by Police Chief Rafael Padilla and administered by Kent Mayor Dana Ralph, marking the beginning of Officer Cienega’s service with the department.

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Officer Cienega brings a diverse background of service and expertise. In 2019, he joined the U.S. Army as a Satellite Communications Specialist, where he played a key role in maintaining communication systems. He was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in 2020 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He continues to serve in the Army Reserves.

Academically, Officer Cienega holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Human Resource Management. Before joining law enforcement, he worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs, assisting veterans by reviewing disability claims and helping them receive due compensation.

When asked about his decision to join the Kent Police Department, Officer Cienega stated that the agency stood out for its strong leadership and training environment. He expressed enthusiasm about working alongside a supportive team and making a meaningful impact in the community.

Outside of his professional life, he enjoys spending time with family, hiking, going to the gym, and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The Kent Police Department encouraged the community to join in welcoming Officer Cienega as he begins his role in serving and protecting the residents of Kent.
