USAArmed Robbery Suspect Arrested After Chase Through Kent

Kent, WA – A 17-year-old Kent resident was arrested Tuesday morning following an attempted armed robbery at a bank ATM on Kent’s East Hill and a subsequent vehicle and foot pursuit, according to the Kent Police Department.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of an attempted robbery involving a masked suspect who allegedly demanded cash from a 36-year-old man at gunpoint while he was using an ATM. The victim, who had his child with him at the time, told authorities the suspect did not obtain any money and fled the scene in a silver Toyota. No license plate number was available, but the victim provided a detailed description of the suspect.

Using Flock Safety camera technology, officers were alerted to a stolen silver Toyota in the vicinity. Police located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot and attempted a traffic stop. The driver matched the suspect’s description but refused to comply and fled toward Renton, entering northbound Highway 167.

Officers later located the stolen vehicle near the I-5 and MLK Jr. Way South exit after it had collided with another vehicle at an intersection. Witnesses identified the suspect as the driver. When approached by officers, the suspect fled on foot.

During the foot chase, an officer observed the suspect reaching toward his waistband. A handgun fell from the suspect during the pursuit. After ignoring repeated commands to stop, the suspect was subdued with a Taser and taken into custody without further incident.

Police recovered a Glock 17 handgun along with multiple magazines from the scene.

The original victim and child were not injured. Fire personnel responded to the collision, and no serious injuries were reported. Witnesses at the crash site provided statements and evidence, including a mask believed to belong to the suspect.

The teen was booked into the King County Juvenile Detention Center on multiple felony charges, including attempted robbery, eluding law enforcement, unlawful possession of a firearm, and hit-and-run.

Kent Police credited witness cooperation, technology, and coordinated patrol tactics for the swift arrest.
