A few months ago, Donald Trump and Elon Musk were hugging each other. Now both are attacking each other on social media. Trump hinted in his taunt that if Musk does not agree, he can be deported from America. He gave the same indication for Zohran Mamdani, who is contesting for the mayoral election in New York. But both of them are American citizens. So can Trump deport any citizen through his position?
Trump is notorious for making absurd statements, and no one takes his statements seriously. Even then the question arises. Does America give freedom to anyone who is a legitimate citizen of America or is living there legally? Just because he disagrees with the government, or speaks on a controversial issue, he will be expelled from the country!
Absolutely not. If a person is an American citizen, whether by birth or through naturalization, then it is against the Constitution to expel him from the country. Second thing- Citizens in the US have freedom of speech. That is, no matter how many controversial statements they make, If it does not incite violence or pose a threat to national security, then no such order can be given. Even if that happens, he or she could be jailed for criminal activity, which would be the case in the US. Disagreement with the government or policy cannot be a reason to deport someone.
Musk was born in South Africa and came to America via Canada. He is a US citizen. Zohran Mamdani is also of Indian origin but has American citizenship. Both of them kept speaking on different issues. For example, Musk directly speaks against Trump’s policies, while Mamdani raises the issue of Palestine and attacks the White House. One’s attack is more direct, while the other is holding his ear while swinging his hand. Yes, but Trump is angry with both of them.
Many times people adopt fair or unfair means to obtain American citizenship. They get fake documents made, hide important things like old criminal records and resort to fake crises. In such cases they do get citizenship but it can be taken away if the secret is revealed.
After getting citizenship, it is necessary to work so that the family can survive, but within five years of citizenship, if someone joins any organisation which the US considers a terrorist group, the government can take away the citizenship.
