China’s state media reported on Monday that Japan and South Korea are ready to respond to US tariffs along with China. However, South Korea said that this claim of the Chinese media has been exaggerated to some extent. At the same time, Japan has said that no such discussion has taken place.
This comment by China’s state media came after the first economic dialogue in five years between the three countries on Sunday. In this dialogue, facilitating regional trade was discussed. Yuyuan Tantian, an account affiliated with China Central Television, said in a post on Weibo that Japan and South Korea want to import semiconductor raw materials from China, and China is also interested in purchasing chip products from Japan and South Korea.
The post said the three countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation in supply chains and have more dialogue on export controls. Regarding this, a spokesperson for South Korea’s Trade Ministry said that ‘to say that the three countries are preparing a joint response to US tariffs is somewhat exaggerated.’
