Kent, WA: As autumn sets in and the familiar scent of pumpkin spice fills the air, the City of Kent Government has issued a friendly seasonal reminder to residents: refrain from blowing leaves into the street.
City officials note that while raking leaves is a routine part of fall cleanup, blowing them into roadways can create serious safety and environmental hazards. Leaves on streets can cause slippery conditions for drivers and cyclists and are known to clog storm drains, leading to potential flooding in neighborhoods.
In addition to being a safety concern, the city points out that this practice is prohibited under Kent City Code 7.14. Residents are encouraged to properly dispose of leaves through yard waste bins or composting methods.
The city’s reminder highlights the importance of community responsibility in maintaining clean streets and protecting local infrastructure during the fall season.
