KENT, Wash. — The City of Kent is renewing its call for safer roads with a public safety message urging drivers to keep their phones down while driving.
In a recent announcement, city officials highlighted the severe risks associated with texting behind the wheel. According to the message, texting while driving increases the likelihood of a crash by 23 times. The city also noted that looking away from the road for just five seconds at 55 mph is comparable to driving the length of a football field while blindfolded.
The City of Kent’s graphic features a bold reminder: “Put the Phone Down. Hand-held cell phone use and texting is prohibited and dangerous.” Officials emphasized that no message is worth risking lives, encouraging drivers to stay focused and “just drive.”
This campaign aligns with ongoing statewide and national efforts to reduce distracted driving incidents and promote road safety.
