City of Kent Urges Residents to Help Prevent Localized Flooding

USACity of Kent Urges Residents to Help Prevent Localized Flooding

Kent, WA — November 4, 2025:
The City of Kent is asking residents to lend a hand in reducing localized flooding as autumn leaves continue to fall. City officials remind the community that simple steps can make a big difference in keeping storm drains clear and neighborhoods safe from water buildup.

According to a recent post from the City of Kent Government, leaves and debris can easily clog storm drains, leading to water pooling on streets and potential flooding. The city is encouraging residents to spend a few minutes clearing drains near their homes if they notice blockages.

“🍂 Leaves and other debris can clog storm drains, so take a few minutes to clear one if you notice,” the city posted.

The city also advises residents to compost organic yard waste and properly dispose of garbage to prevent materials from washing into the drainage system. Additionally, residents are reminded not to blow leaves into the street, as this can cause debris to accumulate and block drainage again.

For larger concerns or maintenance requests, residents can contact Public Works at 253-856-5600 or report issues through the KentWorks app.

The reminder comes as seasonal rainfall increases, a time when blocked drains can quickly lead to flooding. The City’s proactive approach emphasizes community involvement in maintaining clean and effective drainage systems.
