REDMOND, WA — A coordinated emergency response helped save an elderly cyclist after a serious crash along the Sammamish River Trail on November 11, according to the Redmond Police Department.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m., when 911 dispatchers received a call in which the caller could be heard groaning but not speaking. Dispatchers quickly traced the phone’s location to an area along the popular recreational trail.
A pilot with the Redmond Fire Department (DFR) was deployed immediately and soon located an elderly male cyclist who had crashed and was drifting in and out of consciousness. Using aerial guidance, DFR personnel directed Redmond police officers to the man’s exact location on the trail.
Responding officers and medical teams reached the cyclist quickly, provided emergency care, and transported him to a local hospital. Authorities report that he suffered multiple injuries but was found in time thanks to seamless communication between dispatchers, DFR, police, and medical personnel.
The Redmond Police Department credited the rescue to fast, well-coordinated teamwork across agencies.
