RENTON, Wash. — Federal aviation officials have established temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) for drone operations in parts of Renton as preparations intensify for FIFA World Cup 2026-related activities.
According to a notice shared by the Renton Police Department, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has restricted drone flights from June 1 through July 21 in designated areas surrounding Boeing facilities at The Landing and the Seattle Sounders FC Center at Longacres.
The restrictions come as Renton prepares to host Belgium’s national soccer team, which will use the Sounders training facility as its FIFA World Cup 2026 base camp. Team practices and related activities are expected to draw significant attention and security measures.
Authorities are advising drone operators to review FAA regulations and verify current airspace restrictions before flying. Officials say the temporary measures are intended to support public safety, security operations, and event management during the international tournament.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to bring global attention to the Seattle region, with Renton playing a key role as a host community for one of the tournament’s participating national teams.
