LAKE PERRIS, Calif. — A tragic drowning incident at Lake Perris on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a father who witnesses say died while trying to save his child.
According to Cal Fire officials, emergency crews responded to reports of a drowning near the Lake Perris boat docks around 4:30 p.m. When first responders arrived, an adult male was located in the water and later pronounced dead at the scene.
The child involved in the incident was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, authorities confirmed.
Witnesses at the scene said the victim was the child’s father and that he entered the lake after seeing his son struggling in the water. Several bystanders attempted to assist in the rescue efforts but were unable to save the father. Witnesses described him as a hero for his selfless act in saving his child’s life.
Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved. The incident remains under investigation.
