USAFive Arrested in Organized Retail Theft Operation at Westwood Village

SEATTLE — Seattle Police arrested five suspects ranging in age from 38 to 65 during an organized retail theft operation at Westwood Village on Wednesday, October 8.

The operation, led by patrol officers and detectives from the General Investigations Unit (GIU), took place at a retail store in the 2600 block of Southwest Barton Street — a location that has experienced a high volume of theft incidents.

Working alongside store loss prevention staff, detectives identified and detained multiple individuals caught stealing. In total, five suspects were arrested for shoplifting.

One of the suspects also had an outstanding misdemeanor theft warrant and a felony warrant related to narcotics. Another individual, who was accompanying one of the arrested suspects, was taken into custody for a robbery warrant and booked into SCORE Jail. Three of the suspects were booked into King County Jail, while another was identified and released. All individuals involved were issued permanent trespass notices barring them from returning to the store.

Police recovered approximately $460 worth of stolen merchandise during the operation.

“This was a team effort and could not have taken place without the hard work by GIU detectives, patrol, and partnership with the loss prevention employees at Marshalls,” said Sergeant Austin Davis.

GIU detectives will continue to handle follow-up investigations.
