Washington Governor Bob Ferguson strongly rejected accusations from U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi that Washington State is a “sanctuary jurisdiction” violating federal law. In letters exchanged this week, Bondi threatened state officials with potential criminal prosecution over immigration policies.
Ferguson condemned the claims as “legally baseless” and vowed to defend Washington’s laws, which limit state resources from being used for federal immigration enforcement. He accused the Trump administration of intimidation tactics, emphasizing his commitment to protecting democracy, the rule of law, and immigrant communities.
Ferguson, who previously defeated Trump administration policies in court 55 times as attorney general, said Washington will not “bend the knee” or be bullied by federal threats.
